I don’t even want to waste time saying “I told you so.”
Rather, I say—Investigate and hold for prosecution not only the driver, but the RENFE Staff that was participating in the phone conversation with an employee responsible for controlling the speed of the train.
Investigate and replace the top levels of management at RENFE for not proscribing the use, or possession of "energized" cellphones by employees involved with the movement of trains and equipment.
Oh, and a word of recommendation to all those still involved, actively with supervising employees:
Confiscate cellphones that are brought to work. Secure such cell phones in a safe place; return to employees only at the end of their assignments.
Or, alternatively, confiscate all cellphones brought to work. Smash same with big hammer. Return pieces to employees in bag, with instruction on how to dispose of pieces properly and safely. Charge employees for bag, and hammers.
Personally, being the sort of forgiving personn I am, I prefer the latter approach. Feel free to adopt more creative and definite solutions to this problem.
Lives are at stake.
